Get Going! User Centered Design Process: Creation - Episode 2

Download it: MP3 | AAC | OGG | OPUS

This is episode two of two. If you have not heard the first episode you may return to last week and listen to it first!
Designing an HMI, GUI, interface solution is in some parts a highly creative process, and I'm some parts following a strict procedure. After collecting the relevant data, the knowledge shall be turned into some concept. In this episode, I'm describing the steps required to get a solution with perfect usability and user experience.

Amanda Stockwell is President of Stockwell Strategy. With her business, she has a focus on user research. She collects all the data the techy guys need to create successful products. Amanda talks about a boat trip to Mexico, which was totally unusual, about the way she sees our highly technological way, about her education and her various positions. And she lets us know, how lollipops influenced her career.

How to Start an HMI Development - User Centered Design Process: Analysis

Download it: MP3 | AAC | OGG | OPUS

This episode of podcasts is the beginning of a mini-series on the topic of the User-Centered Design Process. People with their desires, dreams, and skills should be at the center of thinking about and developing technology. At the beginning of the process, there is an analysis procedure, in which the existing data, the environment, the tasks, the skills of the user are. A user-oriented HMI solution can only be created with a solid and detailed database. Further episodes will discuss the next steps!

The Monkey's Brain in a Rolling Robot: Humans and Autonomous Driving - Episode 2

Download it: MP3 | AAC | OGG | OPUS

Driving becomes more and more automated. From single assistant systems like lane-keeping in-vehicle technologies grow and merge towards fully automated and autonomous driving. The relationship between humans and cars will change drastically, the entire usability, user experience, and HMI design will change dramatically. Episode 2 discussed the changes in user experience for drivers, passengers, and humans outside the vehicle.

Simply Make it Simple: On Intuitiveness

Download it: MP3 | AAC | OGG | OPUS

The term "intuitive" is often used when demands are made on the usability of technology. Every company, every corporation claims that the technology developed is intuitive.

What is intuitiveness? How is it created? And how can it be ensured in the development process? Most of us know intuitively what intuitiveness means.
Based on the activation theory of Bärentsen and Trettvik, I am discussing the term intuitiveness, it comes from intuition and is shaped by previous physical and cultural experiences.

At the end of the podcast, I will give you three questions that should be answered in detail at the beginning of every HMI development in order to get an intuitive solution.

Three Technologies I don't Believe in

Technologies are often hyped at first, only to fail grandly. 80-90% of all innovations do not make it to success. This episode of the Human-Technology podcast is about the why, why do innovations fail, and three technologies that are currently immensely popular and that I don't believe in. These are electric and autonomous flying taxis, plug-in hybrid vehicles, and the acquisition of Zoox by Amazon.

We are Standing on the Shoulders of Giants

We are standing on the shoulder of giants. All we do, we think, all the ideas we have are based on the ideas and actions of others. The big guys write books and publish them. Books are an excellent chance to get into the brains, into the thinking, into the thoughts of leaders impacting our world.
I talk about three books about HMI design, usability, and user experience that influenced me. They are:

Donald Norman: The Design of Everyday Things
Alan Cooper: The Inmates are Running the Asylum
Gilles Colborne: Simple and Usable

About this podcast

It's about the relationship between humans and technology, about the design of technology. It's about how we can get our lives back by dropping technology addiction. Technology has two big problems: it's difficult to access and it's addicting. I want to make my listeners' lives better by opening their eyes to the design and use of technology. My goal is to change the way you look at the world and make it a better place.
